The fCor test is a rapid quantitative test for the concentration of cortisol in feline serum or plasma. Clinically, it is used mainly to diagnose adrenal disorders and to evaluate the therapeutic effect.
🧪 Test principle
The test employs a quantitative competitive fluorescence immunoassay technique. The sample is mixed with the diluent and the mixture is dispensed into the well of the cartridge. Free cortisol in the sample competes with the analyte conjugated on the detection line for binding to the fluorescently labelled antibody. The more analyte the sample contains, the fewer labelled antibodies bind to the detection line and the weaker the signal — that is, the signal is inversely proportional to the concentration. The concentration is reported in nmol/L.
📊 Detection range and interpretation
Detection range of the kit: 10–1000 nmol/L (0.36–36.23 μg/dL). Samples with values outside this range are reported as <10 nmol/L or >1000 nmol/L.
Reference range: 16.6–166 nmol/L (0.6–6.01 μg/dL).
The reference values shown are recommended — each laboratory should establish its own reference range. The final assessment is made by a veterinarian on the basis of the clinical picture and all available laboratory data.
